According to legend, Ethiopia is the birthplace of coffee. But for many coffee lovers, it’s much more than that: it’s the place of their first truly memorable encounter with specialty coffee. Naturally processed Yirgacheffe coffees in particular captivate with their intense sweetness and vibrant berry-floral notes – a world apart from the everyday coffees most are used to.

It’s no surprise that Yirgacheffe is considered one of the most spectacular and beloved coffee origins in the world. Its unique flavor profile makes it an unforgettable experience in the cup – and a cornerstone of modern coffee culture.

Our Ethiopian coffee comes from the Alemayehu Daniel Farm, located in the renowned Yirgacheffe growing region in southern Ethiopia. The farm’s story dates back to 1961, when Alemayehu’s father, Daniel Miju, established a coffee and enset farm in the forests of Worka Chalbesa.

Today, Alemayehu cultivates around 10 hectares of this fertile land, producing outstanding coffee known for its complex aromas and exceptional quality.

During harvest season, 54 seasonal workers are employed on the farm. Under careful supervision, only the ripest cherries are handpicked, washed, and slowly sun-dried – a process that demands great precision and experience.

The Daniel brothers each manage their own plots of land, but they work closely together and support one another throughout the key stages of the harvest. This strong sense of family collaboration is reflected in the quality of the coffee.

In addition to coffee cultivation, the family is deeply committed to their community – contributing to projects like building roads and schools. In this way, the farm supports not only the local economy but also the social development of the region.

Preparation Recommendation

Ethiopia Yirgacheffe is a very sweet coffee. It is full of character, so we recommend drinking it as a single origin or blended into an espresso for some fruitiness and sweetness. This coffee is perfect for a Cappuccino or Flat White, as its sweetness and fruitiness shine through. It is also suitable for all filter preparations such as Chemex or Aeropress, and as a Cold Brew in summer.

The coffee can be roasted from light (City) to darker (Full City+). In the lighter roast, citrus notes are emphasized, while in the darker roast, chocolate notes prevail. Between City+ and Full City lies the point where sweetness is most pronounced.
